Seeing Heaven Open

Have you ever seen a child cry because God has touched their heart? This summer, I did. It’s like watching heaven open, with joy and awe flooding your heart.

My summer was full of special moments. Children fixed their eyes on the pictures as I told Bible stories. Small hands shot up to answer review questions. I heard them pray. And I saw their tears.

A last-minute opportunity

In July, I took part in a Gospel Village, an outdoor outreach event. Other commitments left me little time to prepare. But God pushed me to prepare anyway. So I packed some games and materials to share the gospel.

After the games, three Indian friends and a local girl received wordless bracelets. I used them to share the gospel, and they asked me questions and stayed to talk.

“I don’t want to sin anymore”

Two days later, I spoke at a summer camp to about 100 children, teens and leaders. Afterwards, I kept praying as I packed away my visuals. Then the camp director walked over with a six-year-old boy.

He was sobbing so hard he couldn’t speak. I thought he’d hurt himself. But he was crying over his sin. Again and again he said, “I don’t want to sin anymore.”

I hugged him, and we prayed together for his salvation. I counselled him, and he kept asking me questions until I left. I saw heaven open. I pray I’ll see it again, and that every child God brings my way will come to know the Saviour.

Seven prayers

In September, at another camp, a second six-year-old boy prayed seven times during prayer time. He asked the Lord to forgive his sins. God kept speaking to his heart the whole time. He was always the first to pray and the first to answer.

What a miracle: a new life changed by the presence of God’s Holy Spirit.

Working for what we can’t see

Some fruit we see now. Some we may never see. But God is at work either way. Amy Carmichael put it simply: “You work for the years you will not see. You work for the Invisible all the time, but you work for the Eternal. So it is all worthwhile.”

Please keep praying for these children, and for new doors to share Jesus this Christmas.
