Grace Enough to Run the Race

One day before camp, everything nearly fell apart.

A Frightening Start

The day before camp began, our youngest daughter fell near the stairs and hurt her head badly. The wound was open, and she lost a lot of blood. At the hospital she needed three stitches. We were all deeply shaken.

It would have been easy for me to stay home with the baby. But God reminded us that He has everything under control, and that His grace is sufficient to carry us through anything. So we went to camp together as a family. Through it all, our baby stayed happy and peaceful.

Race for God

This year’s theme was “Race for God.” Twenty-two children came, and eleven of them had never been to camp before. Three were our own children, joining as campers for the first time.

Before camp, we heard warnings that a few of the children might be difficult. That warning never came true. The atmosphere stayed calm and peaceful from the first day to the last.

What the Children Really Needed

As teachers, we noticed something simple. What many of these children needed most was a hug, a listening ear, and someone to show them love. It is hard to put into words how good the week felt. When the Lord leads, you can feel the difference.

We spent hours talking with the children about salvation. We shared the gospel again and again, trusting God to plant seeds in young hearts. The children also learned what quiet time with God looks like, and how to spend it on their own.

One Boy’s First Prayer

One boy came from a difficult, divided home. He had never been to a Christian camp before. For the first time in his life, he prayed — for his own soul and for his parents.

After camp, parents sent us messages of thanks. When the Lord works, He does His work well.

Grace Enough

The week began with fear and ended with gratitude. In between, one truth held us steady: His grace is sufficient.

The spiritual attacks came before camp even started. Yet God used us, weak as we were, for His glory. That is the pattern of His grace — He meets us in the hard moments and carries us through.

Would you pray for these children? Seeds have been planted. Pray they take root and grow.
