“I Learned How to Talk to God”

A young girl from a family with no church background said something at her last club of the school year that stopped everything: “I learned here how to talk with God.”

Counting the Days

Every prayer letter begins the same way for us — with a quiet surprise. We look back over a few short months and wonder how the time went so fast. One verse always comes to mind: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). We need that wisdom. We want to use our limited strength at the right time, in the right places, leaning on the God who gives wisdom and renews our strength.

A Girl Who Learned to Pray

This season gave us so many reasons to be thankful. Alongside a faithful co-worker, we saw God at work in an after-school Bible club in the Czech Republic. Two boys and around ten girls came regularly to hear God’s Word. And one of those girls — the one from a family outside the church — put into words exactly what we pray for.

A Record Spring for Training

We also completed three teacher-training courses this spring, with 54 people finishing them. That’s a record for a single spring window. The responses moved us. One wrote, “Thank you for the valuable experience and the chance to try teaching in small groups.” Another said, “It helped me as a parent, too.” A third told us, “I’ve grown in my personal life with God, and my attitude towards children has changed.”

Two more courses, run in partnership with a group of Baptist churches, had begun late the previous year. Students there echoed the same encouragement: “I’ve already used some of these skills in children’s ministry.” “It made me realise how important it is to pass biblical truth on to children.”

Why We Do This

We pray these graduates keep their passion for sharing the gospel with children. Some have school-age children of their own. Some teach in Sunday schools, others in children’s groups. We believe God will send many of them out into the mission field — and that is one of the main reasons we run these courses at all.

He is teaching children to talk with Him. He is equipping the adults who reach them. We are grateful, and we keep counting the days.
