People sometimes ask what my work at CEF Hungary looks like. The honest answer is that it looks like many things. My job is varied, and never boring.
A Job of Many Hats
Some days are filled with the predictable rhythms of office life. I send figures to the bookkeeper, write up minutes from meetings, draft invoices, keep records in order, and reply to the steady flow of correspondence. Other days I’m proofreading articles for the Örömhír Magazine, or writing one myself. Now and again, I get to step into direct ministry with children — a reminder of why all the paperwork matters in the first place.
Caring for the Mission Centre
There’s also the practical side of running a Mission Centre. I welcome guests, keep the building in order (or make sure someone else does), arrange repairs, and buy equipment when something needs replacing. None of it is glamorous. All of it keeps the ministry moving.
Small Changes, Real Joy
Lately, I’ve been working through a list of things that have grown old and tired in the Mission Centre. Two rooms and the classroom are getting new curtains. One room is being refreshed with new bedspreads and a new table. Small changes, but they matter. Next, we’d like to turn our attention to the garden — tidying it up, adding some new plants, making it a place that welcomes people the moment they arrive.
It’s a joy to see these small transformations. A more pleasant space speaks quietly to every visitor: you are welcome here, and this work is worth caring for.
The Work Behind the Work
Not every part of ministry happens in front of a child with a Bible open. Some of it happens at a desk, on the phone with a bookkeeper, or while measuring a window for new curtains. But behind every clean room, every paid invoice, and every printed magazine is the same purpose — making space for the gospel to be shared with children.
