Ignoti nulla cupido — “There is no desire for what is unknown.”

Luther used this phrase in one of his sermons. He was explaining that “a hidden treasure is a useless treasure.” He based this on the message of the angel, who proclaimed the Good News of the Saviour’s birth to the shepherds.

As believers, we possess a great treasure. We cannot allow it to remain hidden. If we do, it becomes a useless treasure.

One of the most fruitful ways to share this treasure is through ministry during the summer months. This is especially true of camps for children and young people.

In recent years, organising camps in our country has become more difficult. New legal requirements are very restrictive. But this is not persecution of Christians by the government. These regulations were introduced because of fatal accidents that occurred at camps. Often these were due to negligence on the part of organisers.

Sometimes questions even arise as to whether camps should be organised at all. Is it worth the effort? Gathering a group of children, planning activities and Bible lessons, dealing with the many challenges involved?

Last week, one parent wrote to us:

“…after returning from the last camp, my son said something like this to me: ‘Dad, at camp I had a situation where an older boy explained to me from the Bible what true conversion really means. I prayed, and this time I was converted properly, the way it should be. After that, I spent two days feeling so happy.’ He also quoted Romans 10:9–10.

Then he began reading the Bible regularly. Of course, getting through the Pentateuch was difficult, but he managed it. He may not have been consistent throughout the whole year. But many of his evenings ended the way shown in the attached photo!

I am so glad that you are there. I am glad that you continue your ministry, and that you organise such camps!”

We are grateful to God for our camp ministry.

Please pray for the four camps in which we will be involved this summer (Lord willing). Pray that God would work in the life of every young person attending. Pray that He would bring about life-changing transformation — visible to those around them, and pleasing to Him.
