“Why Does God Love Us?”

The questions children ask are often the most honest ones.

This Easter, a worker had the chance to visit two high schools in Bulgaria — thirteen classes, nearly 200 children. The teachers willingly gave up their lesson time so the children could hear the Easter story again. And the children were ready. They leaned in, they listened, and then they asked.

“Why does God love us?”

“Why did people hate Jesus?”

“Did Jesus die again?”

“When will you come again?”

These weren’t disruptive questions. They were the questions of children genuinely wrestling with something real. Some of them drew cards to say thank you before the worker left.

Meanwhile, a volunteer ran eight Easter clubs across Bulgaria, reaching 130 more children with the news of the Resurrection.

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” (1 Peter 3:18)

That one verse holds the answer to every question those children were asking. Why does God love us? Because he sent his Son. Why did Jesus die? To bring us to God. Did he die again? No — once, for all, finished. The gospel is simple enough for a child to ask about and deep enough to spend a lifetime exploring.

Pray that God seals the Easter message in the hearts of these children — and that when the workers return, they find faith that has taken root.
