Candy Cane Script

Candy Cane

Looking for a simple, tasty, and visual way to share the Good News with your children? The humble candy cane is more than just a stocking stuffer—it’s a powerful tool for evangelism.

Here is a quick “Candy Cane Script” you can use in your Good News Club, Sunday School class or outreach event!

1. The Shape: Our Good Shepherd

Hold the candy cane with the hook at the top.

  • The Message: It looks just like a Shepherd’s staff. Jesus is our Good Shepherd who looks after us, protects us, and brings us back when we wander away.
  • The Verse: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)

2. The Letter: J is for Jesus

Turn the candy cane upside down so it looks like the letter “J.”

  • The Message: This “J” stands for Jesus. He is the reason we celebrate, and He is the only way we can get to know God.
  • The Verse: “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)

3. The Colour White: A Clean Heart

Focus on the white part of the candy.

  • The Message: White represents purity. Because of what Jesus did, He can wash away the “yucky” things we do (sin) and give us a brand-new, clean heart.
  • The Verse: “Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.” (Psalm 51:7)

4. The Colour Red: A Great Sacrifice

Point to the red stripes.

  • The Message: The red represents the blood of Jesus. He loved us so much that He died on the cross so that our sins could be forgiven. The stripes also remind us that He was hurt so that we could be made whole.
  • The Verse: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

5. The Dark Colour — Our Sins

  • The Message: The dark colour represents sin. Sin is anything we think, say, or do that breaks God’s heart or breaks His rules. It’s like a shadow that separates us from God’s light. But the best part of the story is that Jesus didn’t leave us in the dark! He came to be the Light of the World and take that darkness away.
  • The Verse: “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” (Isaiah 9:2)

6. The Green Colour — Growth

  • The Message: Green is the colour of things that are growing, like grass, leaves, and trees. When we decide to follow Jesus, our journey doesn’t end—it’s just beginning! Just like a plant needs water and sunlight, we grow closer to God by reading His Word (the Bible), praying, and showing His love to others.
  • The Verse: “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18)

7. The Yellow Colour — Heaven

  • The Message: Yellow or Gold reminds us of the Glory of Heaven. The Bible tells us that Heaven is a place of perfect light, where the streets are like gold and there is no more sadness, sickness, or darkness because God’s glory lights up everything! Jesus is preparing a place there for everyone who follows Him.
  • The Verse: “And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it.” (Revelation 21:23)

Pro-Tip for Children’s Workers

When you hand these out, attach a small tag with these seven points and the Bible verses. It turns a simple treat into a “take-home” lesson that parents can reinforce!

Remember: The goal isn’t just to give them sugar—it’s to give them the Saviour!
