“But why do you have to make peace with God?”
It was the last outdoor Bible club of the season in Belgium, and a six-year-old boy wasn’t going to let the question pass. Twelve children had gathered, and as they sang about making peace with God, his hand went up.
A Question He Couldn’t Let Go
The workers explained it carefully — how Jesus came to make right everything sin had broken. He listened. Then came another question: “How does God talk then?” They compared it to an email. God speaks through the Bible. Simple. Clear. And it landed.
A Prayer Worth Waiting For
At the end of the club, a worker asked him gently, “Do you know how to make peace with God now?” He shook his head. “Do you want that? Peace with God?” “Yes,” he said. “Then we pray together, when mum is here.”
When his mother arrived, she was enthusiastic. Her son prayed, asked forgiveness, thanked Jesus, and put his trust in Him.
His mother had also shared that her son had come home from school troubled — he’d been told the earth was made by a bang, and that you couldn’t be a friend of God without baptism. He had looked at her and asked, “Mom, that’s not true, is it?” A six-year-old, already working things out.
A Family Changed
A few weeks later, the workers visited the family at home. His mother told them that every day her son was thanking the Lord for dying on the cross for him. The family had begun reading the Bible together daily.
God works. Praise Him.
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” — Matthew 19:14
A Kingdom That Belongs to Such as These
This boy came with questions — real ones. And God met him there. He didn’t need a theology degree or years of Sunday school. He just needed someone to show up, explain the truth simply, and make space for him to respond. That’s what faithful ministry to children looks like.
When we show up faithfully — even to the last club of the season — God can meet a searching child right where they are. Pray for the families across Europe who are reading the Bible together for the first time.
