There are seasons when the spiritual landscape around you feels like a desert. You look for signs of life and see only dry ground. That is where I found myself not long ago — until God turned my attention to a verse that has not let me go since.
“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19 NLT)
God is at work whether we notice it or not. The question is not whether He is moving, but whether we are positioned to see it. Are we recognising the new things He is doing, or are we still looking for Him in the old places?
For me, that question has reshaped how I see ministry — especially online. Recently, I have been seeing more and more signs of spiritual awakening among young people in Serbia, much of it happening through social media. What I once dismissed as just “digital content” has become a tool God is using to touch hearts.
Young people I have never met in person are receiving a Bible for the first time, beginning to read it, believing in God, and taking their first steps in faith. Some live in places with no church and no fellowship — this kind of ministry is the only spiritual food they have. One young man told me he had never met a believer or set foot inside a church. Later, we met face to face. Another received a Bible that his parents had thrown away. He kept seeking God anyway and eventually attended a church for the first time, travelling an hour from his town to get there.
The messages keep coming.
“I open Instagram, see your video, and immediately feel better. It’s like I reset.”
“Through your videos, I’ve learned how to strengthen my faith and not lose hope.”
“Thank God for you — through your videos I’ve learned so much about faith.”
It is easy to assume God only works in the ways we expect — through pulpits, programmes, and Sunday mornings. But Isaiah 43 reminds us that He carves rivers through wastelands we had written off. A young person scrolling alone in their bedroom is not beyond His reach. A discarded Bible can still find its way into seeking hands. Our job is not to dictate the pathway — it is to keep our eyes open for it.
One thing is certain: God is doing something new. May we have the eyes to see it, and the willingness to walk wherever His river is flowing.
