Despite the pre-camp obstacles, God showed much goodness to me, the leaders, and the children.
Two weeks before the camp, we found out that one leader would not be able to come. We could not find a replacement, and the extra tasks at the last minute became an unplanned burden. Even though we felt physically tired, we rejoiced in the children’s interest in God’s Word. The Lord reassured us that He is with us, even when one leader twisted her ankle and could not carry out some activities due to pain. Some leaders arrived at the camp later or had to leave earlier, so flexibility within the team was very necessary. I am grateful that the leaders put aside their comfort and made an effort to engage with the children as much as possible.
I also had several conversations with children who were unsure if God had forgiven them. Together, we opened the Bible to various passages that speak about this:
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” — John 1:12
We talked about the illustration that just as children do not lose their membership in their family because they did something wrong at home, similarly, when we become part of God’s family (if we believe that Jesus died for our sins), God will not throw us out.
Please pray with me that God will help these children understand this truth and give them peace.
